Retirement corpus calculator: how much will you need?

This calculator estimates the size of the retirement fund you need to cover your expenses for the rest of your life, and the monthly saving required to build it. Enter your current expenses, years to retirement, expected inflation, expected returns and how long you want the money to last.

It first inflates today's expenses to what they will cost in the year you retire, then works out the corpus needed to fund those expenses, allowing for the return the money earns after inflation, and finally the monthly SIP that builds it. The result moves a lot with inflation and return assumptions, so treat it as a range to plan around rather than an exact target.

Frequently asked questions

What inflation rate should I use?

Choose a realistic long-run figure and try a higher one for safety. Small differences compound over decades.

How long should the money last?

Plan for a long retirement. Living into your nineties is possible, and running out is a bigger risk than leaving some behind.

Does this include other income?

Not automatically. If you expect a pension or rent, reduce the expenses the corpus must cover to reflect that.
