NPS calculator: estimate your retirement corpus and pension

The National Pension System is a market-linked retirement scheme where you contribute during your working years. Enter your monthly contribution, an expected return and the years until retirement, and this calculator estimates the corpus you could build and the pension it might support.

Contributions compound monthly at the rate you enter. At retirement a portion of the corpus must be used to buy an annuity that pays a pension, while the rest can usually be taken as a lump sum, as the rules stand at the time of writing. The pension estimate depends on annuity rates at that time, so it is an indication, not a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Are NPS returns guaranteed?

No. NPS invests in a mix of assets you choose, and returns vary. The rate here is your assumption.

Is NPS better than PPF?

They differ: PPF is government-backed with a declared rate, while NPS is market-linked and aimed at a pension. Many people use both for different purposes.

What about the Atal Pension Yojana?

APY is a separate government pension scheme with a fixed pension amount chosen at the start. The comparison guide below explains the difference.
