How to Build a 750+ CIBIL Score From Zero

If you have never owned a credit card, traditional banks will reject you due to "No Credit History". FD-backed cards completely solve this:

1

Open ₹100–₹5,000 FD

Your deposit earns full bank interest (up to 7.5% p.a.) while guaranteeing 100% approval without CIBIL or income proof.

2

Link RuPay to UPI

Pay for groceries, bills, and everyday QR codes via PhonePe/GPay. Keep spending under 30% of your credit limit.

3

Unlock 750+ CIBIL Score

Always pay the full bill on time (never minimum amount). In 6–8 months, top banks will offer you pre-approved unsecured cards!

Curation Methodology

Ranked by what you can actually get

This isn't a formula run over whatever's in our database — each card here was individually researched and verified as currently open for applications. They're ranked primarily by how low a Fixed Deposit you need to get approved (lowest FD minimum first), since that's the real barrier for a first-time cardholder, not reward value.

The first seven are genuinely ₹0 joining and ₹0 annual fee — not waived above a spend threshold, not free for year one only. The rest trade a little more — a slightly higher deposit, or a small disclosed fee — for real reward value (extra cashback, lounge access, the lowest forex markup on this list), once your core need — an actual, gettable first card — is already covered.

Best credit cards for beginners in India

If you have never had a credit card, you have no credit history, and many cards will not approve you. Beginner-friendly cards are easier to get and are usually low-fee or free, letting you build a score by paying on time.

The list ranks cards by real net value after fees. As a first-time user, prefer a card with no or easily waived annual fee, keep utilisation low, and always pay the full bill by the due date to avoid heavy interest charges.

The ranked list, in plain text

  1. superCard (Utkarsh Small Finance Bank): net yearly value about ₹630 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. The single lowest barrier found across this entire research project — a ₹100 Fixed Deposit (verified directly against the issuer, since a figure this low is easy to mistake for a misread) gets you a genuinely free RuPay card, backed by Flipkart's super.money app.
  2. Stable Money Suryoday Bank RuPay Credit Card (Suryoday Small Finance Bank): net yearly value about ₹630 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. A ₹1,000 Fixed Deposit gets you a genuinely free RuPay card with no income proof or CIBIL check required, plus 0.5% cashback on everyday UPI spends.
  3. Niyo Global Secured Credit Card (SBM Bank): net yearly value about ₹1,440 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. A ₹5,000 FD unlocks this genuinely free, zero-forex-markup card — useful if you're a student or plan to spend abroad, on top of the same no-CIBIL, no-income-proof approval every FD-backed card here offers.
  4. 811 #DreamDifferent Credit Card (Kotak Mahindra Bank): net yearly value about ₹1,300 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. From a major bank rather than a fintech app — a ₹10,000 FD gets you a lifetime-free RuPay card built for UPI, with the reliability of Kotak's own banking relationship behind it.
  5. Federal Bank Secured Credit Card: net yearly value about ₹173 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. A genuinely free FD-backed card at ₹25,000 that our own research had missed until now — from a mainstream private bank, with real perks like a quarterly buy-one-get-one on INOX tickets and lounge access once you're spending ₹20,000 a quarter.
  6. BOBCARD PRIME Credit Card (Bank of Baroda): net yearly value about ₹504 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. Backed by Bank of Baroda, one of India's largest public-sector banks — a ₹30,000 FD buys guaranteed approval with zero fees, for anyone who'd rather build credit with a familiar bank than an app-based fintech.
  7. Instant Platinum Credit Card (ICICI Bank): net yearly value about ₹585 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. The highest deposit on this list at ₹50,000, but genuinely free and instantly issued against your FD — a solid option if you already bank with ICICI, India's second-largest private bank, and want to build history within that relationship.
  8. IDFC FIRST WOW! Credit Card (IDFC FIRST Bank): net yearly value about ₹563 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. Once your FD is in place, this is the one with real reward value: 0% forex markup and a credit limit equal to 100% of your FD (most others cap it at 90%) — worth the slightly higher ₹20,000 entry if you also travel or shop online often.
  9. Axis Bank Kwik Credit Card: net yearly value about ₹252 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. The one non-FD-backed pick here — a genuinely free, lifetime virtual RuPay card built for UPI spending. Unlike the FD-backed cards above, approval isn't guaranteed by collateral, and Axis doesn't publish a minimum income or CIBIL requirement, so treat this as a 'worth trying' option rather than a certain approval.
  10. SBM Kredit.Pe Credit Card (SBM Bank India): net yearly value about ₹3,581 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹199. The lowest raw FD minimum after Suryoday and Niyo — ₹2,000 gets you approved, though the ₹199 annual fee only disappears once your FD reaches ₹5,000. In exchange you get a real 3% cashback rate (as closed-loop credit, redeemable for vouchers and gold) on everyday spends.
  11. NOMO Credit Card (AU Bank): net yearly value about ₹1,085 on the sample spend · annual fee ₹0. A ₹199 one-time joining fee (no recurring annual charge) buys the lowest forex markup of any card here — 0.99% — plus quarterly airport and railway lounge access once you're spending ₹50,000 a quarter. Worth the small upfront cost if you travel.
